What to expect from India’s first-ever Madame Tussauds in Delhi

Background History:

There was a girl named, Marie Grosholtz. She was born in an impecunious family in Strasbourg, France on 1 December, 1761. Her father Joseph Grosholtz was killed in the Seven Years’ war just two months before she was born. In order to run the family, her mother Anne-Marie Walder moved to Bern in Switzerland and worked as a housekeeper in Dr. Philippe Curtius’s family. Along with being a physician, the doctor was a skilled wax artist. In 1765, he gave up his career in medicine and moved to Paris to establish a wax portraiture firm.

Did You Know?
The oldest waxwork on display is the cast of Madame du Barry, mistress of Louis XV of France, created by Dr. Philippe Curtius in Madame Tussauds, London.

A year later, the Grosholtz family moved to Paris and the doctor taught the young 6-year old Marie, the art of wax modelling. At the age of 16 (in 1777), she created her first wax figure of Voltaire, who was a writer, a historian, and a philosopher.

A Trip to Pondicherry: The French Capital City

In June 2016, we planned a visit to the city of Bengaluru and Pondicherry for a 4 Days-4 Nights duration.

My main aim of visiting these South Indian destinations was my school friend’s wedding in Bengaluru. I was about to experience a South Indian wedding for the first time, so I was excited!! Unlike North Indian weddings, which happen at night, it was an early morning affair. They start their rituals by the dawn. And it was raining heavily (I hope neither the bride nor the groom ate in a big utensil when they were young, if you know what I mean, just kidding!). They had booked a beautiful banquet hall – looked so lavish! They also had the reception taking place at the same venue. They had unlimited people rolling in from both sides of the stage to get a snap with the newly weds (It’s in our Indian culture). And my friend got hitched to her now husband and they lived happily ever after! 😍

So just after wishing her a happy future life ahead and as the ceremonies got over, we started our journey towards our next destination – Pondicherry.

Pondicherry (or famously known as Pondy) is the French capital city of the Indian union territory: Puducherry. The weather was pleasant. It was expected to drizzle, but we didn’t get any during our tenure over there.

Travel: We took a night bus from Bengaluru to Pondicherry. The bus journey was comfortable. It had a single stop somewhere in between. They served us with blankets and water bottles, which was included in our ticket. After a journey of around 7-8 hours, we reached our destination early in the morning by 6 am.

Day 1: Through the streets

We had pre-booked our hotel on the Goubert Avenue. We took an early check-in, relaxed, got fresh and started with our expedition. To start off with, we rented out a scooty. We got on our ride and went on to explore the roads of the city. Beautifully built houses, roads, cleanliness. We had picked up a Pondicherry travellers brochure, which helped us cover all the nearby places quickly.

Travel to the most expensive city in the world: Singapore

April 2017 saw the most thrilling and exciting trip of my adulthood. My family and I, planned a visit to Singapore for a 6 Nights-7 Days duration (Yayyy!! 😍). We did not go with the usual tour packages offered by various tour and travel companies, as they do not let you have freedom of your own, you are bound to visit specific places which are not of your interest. We wanted to have a trip which will be worthwhile and will let us enjoy the best out of the least. So we created an itinerary of our own with night-long struggles browsing through various links and websites for a few weeks. So here I am briefing you about our journey and the country. You may take notes for your visit later. And DO NOT forget to read the Most Incredible points and my recommendation at the end of this article for a quick review.

Singapore (or in their native Malay name: Singapura), is derived from Sanskrit, meaning the “lion city“. The temperature of this place on an average is around 26-27 degrees throughout the year (which is pretty pleasant, especially if you belong to a country like India where there is huge variation in temperature). It has nationals from almost all over the world (One of the major ethnic groups is Hindus – 9% Indian population).
